Laser Dentistry

The EPIC laser system emits light that precisely interacts with the areas to be treated in a low dose and safe manner. Utilizing the latest in laser technology, EPIC is the only diode laser in the US approved for soft tissue procedures, teeth whitening, and pain therapy (typically TMJ). How is it that one device can address such a wide variety of problems? Well, it is all made possible because of two important features; the adjustable frequency of the laser, and the interchangeable headpieces that completely transform its function.

Laser Treatment for Soft Tissue

For soft tissue procedures such as periodontal pocket therapy, treatment of ulcers | cold sores, or even reducing bacterial count in periodontal pockets, there is no better tool than the EPIC.

Bleeding gums and gum recession are common signs of gingivitis and gum disease, caused by the presence of bacteria and inflammation inside the gums. The EPIC laser gum treatment is a relatively painless procedure that removes inflamed areas and infected tissue from inside the gums. Improved healing of the gum tissue follows after treatment along with proper oral care.

With EPIC, it is possible to improve the appearance of your smile by shaping the gums, known as laser soft tissue gingival contouring. The laser safely removes excess gum tissue that may give you a “gummy” smile, or makes your front teeth appear irregular in size or shape.

The Epic Laser system may also be used to remove small “tags” called papilloma and growths called fibromas, that result from cheek or tongue traumatic bite.

Tissue connection that restrict the movement of your tongue affecting your speech or cause gum recession can be “released” with the EPIC laser. Patients who choose EPIC will also experience less bleeding and a lack of need for anesthetic or sutures in many cases.

The EPIC laser is able to treat as well as decrease the amount of healing time for embarrassing and annoying cold and canker sores.

Laser Teeth Whitening

When performing teeth whitening, the EPIC need only be equipped with its special whitening headpiece that helps distribute its beam across the patient’s teeth. With an average whitening of 4-6 shades in only 20 minutes, the EPIC is among the fastest and most efficient of any in-office whitening systems.

How does it work?

A hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel is applied to the teeth and activated by the laser. If you tend to have sensitive teeth you can let us know and we can control the level of laser energy that we deliver to make your experience more pleasant. The EPIC treatment process lightens dark, yellowed or discolored enamel caused by tobacco, food, and beverages such as tea, coffee and red wine.

Results are noticeable immediately after the treatment.

Laser Pain Therapy

Those of our patients who experience temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) or other chronic oral pains may find relief from the EPIC’s most unique feature, pain therapy. Using what is called the Deep Tissue Hand piece, the focus and depth of laser penetration is controlled to only the precise area that is the source of the pain. Approved by the FDA as treatment for oral maxillofacial pain, think of this procedure as simply a deep tissue massage for your mouth and |or jaw.

Signs & Symptoms

  • Facial pain
  • Earaches or ringing of the ears
  • Jaw locking
  • Clicking or popping sounds in the jaw joint
  • A bite that feels uncomfortable or “off”
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain
  • Swelling on the side of the face

How does it work?

The EPIC works as a topical heating device that helps to temporarily increase your blood circulation as well as to temporarily relax your muscles. The EPIC is then able to temporarily relieve joint pain and stiffness. Treatment takes approximately 10 minutes for each area, so it’s fast and convenient for people with busy schedules. Patient often come in for a series of 2-6 treatments, once every 2 to 4 days. Sometimes even fewer treatments are needed.
